Colorado Springs is the second largest city in Colorado and great place to live or visit with its mild temperatures, beautiful scenery and a very friendly population. Colorado Springs still has a small town atmosphere with all the amenities of larger cities. From almost everywhere in the city you will have a fantastic view of the mountains including the world famous Pikes Peak! When the sun goes down in the west over the mountain range you’ll think you’re seeing the edge of heaven! Colorado Springs has a population of approximately 372,437 people which is included in the 596,053 people living in the County of El Paso. The Unites States Olympic Center, the Broadmoor, the World Arena, Van Briggle Pottery, Michael Garman Galleries, Focus On The Family, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the Pioneer Museum are among several other attractions are located in the city. There are numerous military bases and installations located around the city to include the Air Force Academy, NORAD, Peterson Air Force Base, Shriver Air Force Base and Fort Carson.
There are a variety of trail systems that run though out the entire city that hooks together so you can go almost anywhere in the city without ever getting on a public street. To the west of the city there a variety of trails through the mountains ranging from very easy to very difficult.
The city of Colorado Springs connects with many other small towns.
Manitou Springs is just to the west of the city at the base of Pikes Peak. It’s a quaint little city with a population of around 4980. You’ll find a lot of small shops offering a variety items within the city, Nearby attractions to it include, the Garden of the Gods, Barr Trail that goes to the top of Pikes Peak or you can ride to the top on the on the Pikes Peak Cog Railroad. During the summer months you can drive to the top on the same road they have the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Seven Falls, the Cliff Dwellings, Cave of The Winds, Flying W Ranch, and Santa’s Workshop are just a few more of the attractions around the city.
Nearby cites include Monument & Palmer Lake to the north. Green Mountain Falls, Cascade, Crystal & Woodland Park to the west. Falcon, Peyton, Calhan, & Ellicott are located to the east. Fountain is located to the south of the city. Each city offers their own unique qualities and life style. All of the cities are no further than 20 to 30 minutes from the city of Colorado Springs, CO.

SOME HISTORY ABOUT COLORADO SPRINGS
First visited by Spanish explorers in the 1500s, the territory was claimed for Spain by Juan de Ulibarri in 1706. The U.S. obtained eastern Colorado as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, the central portion in 1845 with the admission of Texas as a state, and the western part in 1848 as a result of the Mexican War. Colorado has the highest mean elevation of any state, with more than 1,000 Rocky Mountain peaks over 10,000 feet high and 54 towering above 14,000 feet. Pikes Peak, the most famous of these mountains, was discovered by U.S. Army Lieut. Zebulon M. Pike in 1806. Once primarily a mining and agricultural state, Colorado's economy is now driven by the service-producing industries, which provide jobs for approximately 82.4 percent of the state's non-farm work force. Tourism expenditures in the state total approximately 6 billion dollars annually. Tourist expenditures on the ski industry account for 1.8 billion dollars annually, approximately a third of the total tourist expenditures. The main tourist attractions in the state include Rocky Mountain National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area, Mesa Verde National Park, the Great Sand Dunes and Dinosaur National Monuments, Colorado National Monument, and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument. The two primary facets of Colorado's manufacturing industry are food and kindred products, and printing and publishing. The mining industry, which includes oil and gas, coal, and metal mining, was important to Colorado's economy, but it now employs only 1.2 percent of the state's workforce. Denver is home to companies that control half of the nation's gold production. The farm industry, which is primarily concentrated in livestock, is also an important element of the state's economy. The primary crops in Colorado are corn, hay, and wheat.
